Checkpoint Charlie on a rainy Thursday afternoon a few weeks ago. Checkpoint C was the most famous crossing between east and west Berlin. It's the crossing of Friedrichstraße (street) & Zimmerstraße and was a car and foot border crossing point. This area was heavily patrolled and guarded on both sides. The Russians called the crossing point the Friedrichstraße Crossing Point. In 1961 there was a famous standoff with tanks on either side - if you've seen any of those pictures. The history in this one square block is really amazing.
